20 Drabbles!

Current mood: accomplished
Current song: "Wake Up Call" - Maroon 5

I didn't get any inspiration the first million times I saw this challenge, but I decided to try it one more time and, lo and behold, I hit the jackpot. You probably have it memorized by now, but just in case:

1. Pick any character(s) or pairing(s) you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

I admit I cheated a bit and skipped the songs I couldn't think of anything for, but to make up for it I did 16 drabbles instead of only 10! They're all Brad/Ryan and I think I covered almost every genre you can think of, from pure fluff to pure angst.

"First Time" - Lifehouse
Ryan stared at Brad, not quite wanting to believe what he just said. Everything was too fragile yet, they were moving too fast, he wasn’t ready for this. Or maybe he was just scared. Maybe this was exactly what he’d been looking for, waiting for. Maybe Brad was right where he needed to be. Screw everything and everyone else. This just felt right. Ryan never failed to feel completely lost with Brad, but then again, it never failed to feel like home either. Right then and there he knew what he had to say.

“I love you, too.”

"Angry All The Time" - Tim McGraw
Brad crouched down to pick up the broken glass on the floor. His mind was an explosion of harsh words and obscenities, all belonging to Ryan. He didn’t understand what had gone so wrong. After more than three years together, Ryan just suddenly wasn’t happy. Brad never did anything right anymore, was always waiting for the criticism that would undoubtedly come. As much as Brad loved Ryan, it was time to make a stand.

He closed the front door that Ryan hadn’t shut on his way out. He glanced up the stairs and sighed, making his decision. He wouldn’t be there when Ryan got back.

"Addicted" - Kelly Clarkson
Slammed against the wall, Ryan struggled for breath for a moment before his lips were taken in by another’s. Brad’s hands reached for his, rising them above his head and pinning them there. Ryan couldn’t stop the moan as Brad trailed his mouth down Ryan’s neck. All Ryan could do was pray and hope that Brad would never stop. The withdrawal was always too much to handle.

"We Danced Anyway" - Deana Carter
As the soft slow music started to play, Colin watched Brad and Ryan. Ryan had wrapped his arms around his lover, running a hand gently down his back. Brad hooked his thumbs in the belt loops of Ryan pants and laid his head on Ryan’s shoulder, closing his eyes. They were more holding each other than actually dancing, but Colin thought that was all the sweeter.

"Like the Rain" - Clint Black
“Brad, it’s raining.”

“So? Rain is good.”

“We’ll get wet. I’m not going for a walk in the rain.”

“Yes, you are.”

“No! Brad, I don’t want to –"

“This isn’t so bad, now is it?”

“It’s wet.”

“Yeah, water tends to be like that.”

“Shut up.”

“You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”

"Everything You Want" - Vertical Horizon
He’s looking at you again. He might as well be screaming from the rooftops how much he loves you, if he’s going to keep looking at you like that. Not that it matters. Brad is a great guy, someone you always imagined spending the rest of your life with, but you can’t. No matter how perfect he is for you. No matter what your friends say about how amazing he is.

You don’t feel a damn thing for him.

Even if you’ll never get it yourself, you wish you could make him understand.

"You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This" - Toby Keith
It had started as a joke, Brad and Ryan dancing together, so no one thought anything of it. They were both slightly tipsy, laughing their way through a fast number. But that song eventually ended and was quickly replaced with a slow song. Brad tried to turn around to go back to their table, but Ryan held on to his waist and refused to let go. Brad went along with it as Ryan pulled him closer. No one was paying any attention to them. Brown eyes stared into green ones, wondering what was going on. Leaning in, Ryan brushed his lips against Brad’s, his grip on the other man getting stronger as if he was afraid Brad would bolt.

Brad raised an eyebrow, his eyes betraying his confusion. Finally, he spoke. “Did you mean it?”

Ryan hesitated, not sure what answer Brad wanted to hear. He slowly nodded.

“Then do it again.”

Tonight I Wanna Cry - Keith Urban
Ryan sat on the couch in the living room, staring at the muted TV, a bottle of whiskey in his hand. Every memory of Brad ran through his mind like a slideshow, every moment they were together flashing before his eyes. Including the very last one.

The yelling, the breaking glass, the intense anger…and Brad walking away.

And that’s when the tears finally came.

"Can't Be Really Gone" - Tim McGraw (A follow-up to the previous drabble.)
Ryan tiredly made his way into the kitchen for some water. A flash of red caught his eye on the counter…Brad’s old baseball cap. He swore it was a good luck charm, that whenever he wore it to a game, his team always won.

He finally trudged up the stairs to the bedroom. Laying on the bed was a book that Brad was only halfway through reading. He’d been babbling to Ryan about the latest chapter just last night. He had to come back to read it.

Didn’t he?

"Let's Give Them Something to Talk About" - Bonnie Raitt
“Everyone is saying we’re dating,” Brad mumbled to Ryan, curling up at his side. “I don’t know where the hell they got that idea.”

Ryan chuckled, pressing a kiss to the top of Brad’s head and wrapping his arms around him. “Maybe it’s because you kissed me on stage last week.”

“Please. You and Colin do that all the time. And what about that one time Wayne kissed me?”

“Good point.”

There was a comfortable silence for awhile, each man lost in his own thoughts.

“Or, you know,” Ryan spoke up. “Maybe it’s our tendency to stare too long at each other, laugh too loud with each other, and end up naked in bed with each other.”

A pause, then two voices at the same time: “Nahh.”

"The One" - Gary Allan
A knock at his door woke Ryan up at two o’clock one morning. Brad was there, with bloodshot eyes and tear-stained cheeks. He’d finally broken up with his boyfriend.

Ryan could only hold him and rock him gently, and listen to Brad’s sobbed-filled story. He offered up his extra bedroom for as long as Brad needed it. He only hoped he could control himself until Brad found his way again.

Ryan prayed one day Brad would realize that that way led straight to him.

"White Flag" - Dido
Ryan knew he had messed up. He’d cheated on Brad and his one chance to be happy with the one person he loved was gone forever. But even though Brad had long since left, even though he’d even moved on to someone else…even though Ryan had broken his heart and torn his whole world apart…

Ryan was in love and always would be. There would never be anyone else.

"Open Arms" - Collin Raye
It had been too long, way too long, since Ryan had held Brad in his arms. But he was here now and he was holding on for dear life, hoping that Brad would understand how much he meant to him. Ryan couldn’t stand living by himself, the house was so empty and lifeless. Now all was right with the world again.

And Ryan was never going to let go.

"Complicated" - Carolyn Dawn Johnson
Brad watched as Ryan entered the room. Everyone turned to greet him, but Brad hung back, terrified that how he felt would be written all over his face. Ryan was a good friend, and he didn’t want to do anything to mess that up.

“You know, he was talking about you yesterday,” a voice said from beside him. Brad jumped as he turned to see Colin standing next to him, a smile on his face.

“Wh-what? No, he wasn’t.”

Colin rolled his eyes. “Yeah, he was. I should know, I spent most of the day with him.” There was brief silence as Brad’s eyes went back to Ryan, who was coming towards them. “Are you blind?”

"Feels Just Like It Should" - Pat Green
Ryan laughed as the wind blew in face, his hands gripping the steering wheel of the convertible he and Brad had rented just for the hell of it. Brad was standing up in the seat next to him, holding on to the windshield for dear life, but he let out a whoop of joy. The cheeky grin he gave Ryan only made everything better.

The California sunshine had never been so warm and bright and Ryan was sure he’d never been so happy.

"Heather's Wall" - Ty Herndon
A simple trip to the bank. That’s all it was supposed to be. So why is Brad on his knees, staring down at his midsection, watching the blood flow out of it like some bad horror movie? And why is Ryan all he can think about?

He sees the money on the counter and hears a gun clatter to the floor and someone screaming. He’s starting to feel dizzy; he’s pretty sure he’s losing too much blood.

Somewhere in the distance a voice is saying they’ve lost him.

But saying good-bye to Ryan is all he can think about.

And I've got a few more Brad/Ryan drabbles that I did for another challenge at wliialove last month. I did ten, but only four are Brad/Ryan so hopefully it's okay to repost just those here? Basically, the challenge was to take a quote from the top of every tenth page of a book and write a drabble inspired by each quote. The book I used was Mind Over Matters by Michael J. Nelson.

So should it be with macchiatos and café americanos.

Brad sipped the contents of the tall plastic cup, letting the warmth spread through his body as he stood by the table and glanced over some papers in the green room. It was way too early to be doing any real thinking.

“Hey,” a voice spoke up. Brad looked up to see Ryan standing in the doorway, holding a coffee mug. He smiled like a reflex and nodded in response. Way too early for making words.

Or not. Not one for silences, Ryan spoke again. “Whatchya got there?”

“Oh, a caramel macchiato from Starbucks. You?”

Ryan raised an eyebrow at him. “Black coffee. From, uh, Folger’s.”

There was no stopping the grin from spreading across Brad’s face. “I hear it’s the best part of waking up.”

Ryan smirked, looking Brad up and down in such a way that he could feel a blush coming on. “Well, I wouldn’t say that…”

I decided the only thing left, short of waving politely to the audience and walking away to my death, was to crawl over the top of the railing. To my death.

Brad steps backward towards the balcony as his words come back to him like a freight train. “I want to lick that chocolate off your lip.” He can only assume that jumping over the railing to his death would be less painful than dying of embarrasment like this. No more tequila for him.

But Ryan is standing in the middle of the hotel room with an amused expression on his face, Hershey bar in his hand. He steps forward, raising his other hand to the back of Brad’s neck, playing with the stray hairs there. “Did you want to try?”

They might have opted for limbs having only stock, Chevy Lumina-type strength for far less money, something they could have paid off themselves by taking a weekend job at the Hallmark store.

If you were to ask Bradley Sherwood, at this particular moment, what the single hardest thing he’s ever done would be, he would probably say, “Pick out a birthday card for my boyfriend.”

If you were to ask Wayne Brady, at this particular moment, what the single stupidest thing he’s ever done would be, he would probably say, “Go with my best friend to pick out a birthday card for his boyfriend.”

And this is how we find these two men, in a Hallmark store just outside of Los Angeles. Bradley rejects yet another card, and Wayne throws his hands up in frustration. “Dude,” Mr. Brady is heard to say, “Just cover yourself in whipped cream and chocolate and surprise him when he gets home. What does Ryan need a card for?”

After less than a moment’s hesitation, Bradley shrugs, says, “Good point,” and they walk out of the store.

It’s my guess that there are very few people benefiting from the security offered them on their home computers.

“Brad, what’s my password?”

“My password!”

“Are you trying to use the computer without adult supervision again?”

“Why shouldn’t I?”

“Because you and the computer mix about as well as me and stove. If I’m not allowed to cook without you, then you’re not allowed to use the computer without me.”

“I thought you said *adult* supervision.”

“You’re a funny man, Stiles.”

“You’re here now, so tell me the password.”

“What makes you think I know it?”

“I know I told you it, just in case.”

“Was it ‘Brad is sexy’? No, you definitely would have remembered that one…”

The rest of the drabbles can be found here. All feature Brad (it was for Brad week), just paired with different people.

Hope you enjoyed!! I'd love feedback! :D

Those were all GREAT!

I love the last two especially. *sneaks into Ryan's house and changes the password on his computer to 'Brad is Sexy' while humming Mission Impossible theme song* xD

"Just cover yourself in whipped cream and chocolate and surprise him when he gets home." - Can I have that for my birthday please? Sure it's about three months away, but still!

And I also love the one with nothing but dialogue. So cuutteee.

Great job! :D *gives you a cookie*

Brad (Second City)

I can't begin to express my love for the 'Everything You Want' one, for many reasons.
Firstly, I adore that song, and have been writing a lengthy Brad/Ry fic to it myself (although you've managed to write a much better one in much fewer words!).
Secondly, as I've already said, it's just plain awesome.
Thirdly, this line:
He might as well be screaming from the rooftops how much he loves you, if he’s going to keep looking at you like that
is PERFECT. Just perfect.

I could give in-depth analysis on all of them, to be honest, but that could take a while :P
Just know that I loved them all, and appreciate you posting them here ^_^

wl - captain morgan

Yay! I'm so glad you liked that one. I absolutely adore all of your fic so a comment from you means a lot! Thanks so much!

Also, would you mind terribly if I friended you? I could use more WL fans on my flist, and you seem to love Brad as much as I do. ^_^
